Install Bluetooth Widcomm or ANYCOM on MacBook Boot Camp
Posted by Carrick in Computers on June 1st, 2008 | No Comments »A lot MacBook users may had problem of pairing their headset in the WinXP by using Boot Camp. It was because Apple Bluetooth driver doesnt had the headset service.
Therefore, you need to had either the Widcomm or ANYCOM Bluetooth stack driver to be installed to make it work. Download the latest version of Widcomm or ANYCOM driver and install it. I used version 5.0.1.1400 in my case.
During the installation, it will complain that there is no bluetooth devices found or installed, just simply click cancel and install without it.
Now u will had the red bluetooth icon at the bottom left, to make the driver detect the Apple Bluetooth, you need to edit the btwusb.inf file located at your program file under Widcomm or ANYCOM folder \bin\btwusb.inf.
After this line :- [WIDCOMM.NTx86.5.1]
add this %APPLE.DeviceDesc%=BTWUSB, USB\VID_05AC&PID_8205
After that, save and exit. Now in your device manager, under the bluetooth devices, update the “Apple Bluetooth” driver with the btwusb.inf that you had edited.
The computer will automatically detect the bluetooth and you are ready to use.
My New Gadget, N95
Posted by Carrick in Personal, Photo, Symbian S60 v3 on May 28th, 2008 | No Comments »Hi there, I just extended my contract with 3 for another 2 years and got this phone for free in the $69 cap. This is a wicked phone that had a lot brilliant features such as GPS and 5M Camera with Carl Zeiss lens. The first thing that im interested on this phone was the GPS. It has the Nokia Map pre-installed on the phone with lots of common map such as Australia and Malaysia. The application will automatically download the required map with WIFI, GPRS or HSPA.
Photos above show that the device had lock on the satellite and the GPS position was pointed to my current location in Perth. It take seconds to minutes to get the satellite locked. Average time is about 1 min.
It has some simple basic functions that allow us to search for nearby shops or service centers, also routing and navigating. Photos above show the route from my house to Curtin University. Navigation during driving require monthly or yearly subscription and that arent cheap. I probably cant afford that.
Allowing Multiple Remote Connections on Windows XP
Posted by Carrick in Generals on May 19th, 2008 | No Comments »I just setup my desktop as a Web and FTP server, so I need a Terminal Server on the machine for Remote Access but WinXP only allow 1 user connect at each time. After 10 minute googling, i found a solution to fix that problem. That allow multiple users connect to my machine via Remote Desktop client.
1. Disable Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) and Terminal Services
- Right-click ‘My Computer’ on the desktop and select ‘Properties’
- Click the ‘Remote’ tab, and make sure that the ‘Allow users to connect remotely to this computer’ checkbox is UNCHECKED, then click ‘OK’.
- Start Menu > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services
- Scroll down the list to find ‘Terminal Services’, right-click and select properties. Change the ‘Startup Type’ drop-down to ‘Disabled’ (if it is not already), and close the ‘Services’ window.
2. Disable Windows File Protection (WFP) Temporarily
- Open the Registry Editor: Start Menu > Run > ‘regedit’
- Navigate down in the tree to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
- Change the value of the ‘SFCDisable’ key on the right to ‘1? and click ‘OK’
- Close the Registry Editor
3. Restart Computer
4. Patch termsrv.dll
- Go to http://concurrentremotesessions.netfirms.com/
- Download the Concurrent_Remote_sessions_SP2.zip by clicking the “Download this” link at the site above.
- Extract the zip file.
- Double click on Install.bat. (This will patch the termsrv.dll file)
- Double click on enable Concurrent Remote sessions SP2.bat.
5. Make the RDC Setting in the Windows Registry Allow More than 2 Remote Connection at each time.
- Open up the Registry Editor: Start Menu > Run > ‘regedit’
- Navigate down in the tree to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\Licensing Core
- Add a DWORK Key called ‘EnableConcurrentSessions’ with a value of ‘1′, then close the Registry Editor.
- Open up the Group Policy Editor: Start Menu > Run > ‘gpedit.msc’
- Navigate dow in the tree to: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Termina Services. Double-click the item in the list on the right entitled ‘Limit number of connections’. Enable it, and set the number of connections to 3 (or whatever you need). Click ‘OK’.
7. Re-Enable RDC and Terminal Services
- Go back and check that checkbox we saw in step 1.1, check it, then click ‘OK’.
- Go back to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, find the ‘Terminal Services’ item, right click on it, and change the ‘Startup Type’ value back to ‘Manual’
8. Restart your computer and that’s all about it.

Fix Mac Office 2008 Firefox 2 Traditional Chinese Fonts Problem
Posted by Carrick in Computers, Mac on May 10th, 2008 | 2 Comments »Few days ago I had problem of viewing Traditional Chinese words in Firefox 2.0.0.14 after installing the Office 2008 on my Leopard 10.5.2.
For people who had the same problem, can either install Firefox 3 Beta or do the command below
Go to Terminal and type : sudo mv /Library/Fonts/Microsoft/PMingLiU.ttf /Library/Fonts\ Disabled/
Firefox 3 Beta is very buggy at the moment therefore you can try the second method but that only work with Traditional Chinese. Simplified Chinese still unable to view in Firefox 2. If any of you know how to fix this please post it here.
Thanks
